My Role

Visual Designer

Product Designer

Front-End Developer

I am old. Gone are the days of injecting code into Myspace "about me" sections (I used to be a dev too). Gone are the days of editing pixel perfect textures with the pencil tool in Photoshop. But the lessons I learned as a young visual designer lead me to become the well rounded leader I am today.

F#ck, that’s Delicious. Food as visual medium

The first startup I worked for was a recipe website and app called Gojee. In the days of allrecipes covered in ads, and food blogs with a thousand words before a recipe, our insight was 1. users want to eat with their eyes, let’s let the images do the talking. And 2. Users are craving something, have some number of things in their fridge they want to use, and often dislike certain foods or have a dietary restriction. Let’s translate directly into an interface. 300,000 subscribers in 6 months and a [nomination for best design](https://techcrunch.com/2012/01/05/2011-crunchies-finalist/) later, Gojee made a brief but powerful impact on the recipe website scene.

Creating a flagship mobile experience for ESPN

At design agency MOMENT, my primary client was ESPN. Along with many teammates, we created their first ever iOS app, Scorecenter, to help users track scores across sports (even cricket!). Later, we’d design the iPad version *before the iPad had even launched*.

How many ways can you style the same site?

Early in my career, I was both a designer and front-end developer at Sony Music. We were tasked with bringing artist websites into “Web 2.0” with social features and editable content. Here, I learned how to take limited typographic choice and the same set of features to create dramatically different visual styles appropriate to each artist.
